Bareback Porn is Back!! 2

Bareback gay porn is back.

Frankly, I don’t know if it ever left completely but AfroGay knows that it is now more common to see porn actors going at it ‘raw’ than with a sheath on it. How does AfroGay know this? He agreed to take part in a certain study. No, no, no, AfroGay is not the 10-inch-dick, muscle-bound, heaving and thrusting stallion hiding his face behind a mask of Zorro in the last porn movie you watched, far from it. While curious minds will no doubt be wondering what kind of study it is, suffice it to say that AfroGay is not at liberty to say at this point.

Anyhow, it is partly from that study, and partly from keeping one’s eyes and ears open that AfroGay can tell anyone who has not been paying attention that bareback gay porn is well and truly back. Part of the reason, if not the main one, must be because advances in HIV/Aids treatment are making it look as though the corner might have been turned in the fight to keep sufferers not only alive but living very healthy and productive lives. Someone with a good HIV doctor and a good supply of ARVs in the United States of America and Europe today stands a better chance of making it to 80 years than someone walking across the street, sober and without any ailment whatsoever. Yes, HIV treatment in the Western world has gotten to a level where you stand more chance of being run over by a speeding taxi than by dying of Aids, or so the thinking now goes. HIV is the new diabetes, you hear people say – chronic but manageable.

With the stigma of carrying the HIV virus fading in the West (it needs to be said that the same is not true in Africa) it is little wonder that bareback porn seems to be making a robust return, with studios like Treasure Island Media leading the way and making few apologies about it.To be sure, in all the years we all cowed in the corners while HIV/Aids ravaged entire populations, AfroGay didn’t see many straight porn movies with actors wearing condoms. Yet, in the years between 1988 and 2005, contemporary bareback gay movies became almost extinct, likely because the Aids scourge burnt the the gay community more visibly and ferociously.

While the ins and outs of what it means for bareback porn to proliferate again are a debatable topic, AfroGay can predict that pornography is heading in the direction of bareback until another terrifying sexually transmitted disease shows up. The reason for this lies in the human mind. Take smoking which we all know kills you slowly. Once you let an adult know the consequences of smoking, there is not much else you can do if they choose to smoke anyway. Likewise, if an adult is informed about the risks of having sex without protection, what he/she does after that is entirely up to him/her.

The other, and rather obvious, reason why bareback sex is again on the ascendancy is that there is a market for it. It is really a question of willing buyer/willing seller. If there was no market for bareback sex, Treasure Island Media wouldn’t be making so much money off of it.

Castro (Supreme)

The truth is that porn actors don’t have to turn to porn at all. Indeed, many porn actors are like Ace Rockwood who readily admits that he has always wanted to have sex on camera so if you think that people take their clothes off and have sex in front of 12 cameras out of desperation, you are mistaken. AfroGay cannot identify a single porn actor who has ever said that he went into porn under duress. None. While there are a lot of actors like Rockwood who are holding on to the mast of protected sex (Castro Caliente aka Supreme is one of the few prolific porn actors who always wears a condom), there are probably more actors willing to have ‘raw’ sex while the cameras are rolling.

The final, and perhaps most uncomfortable truth, is that bareback porn is selling like hot cakes because it is ‘hotter’ than sex with rubbers, sheaths, femidoms and goodness knows what else has been used in the name of safe sex. Deep down, we all know that sex is meant to be enjoyed skin to skin, body to body, fluid to fluid. All these latex gadgets that have been introduced in recent years have been a compromise when the alternative seemed a sure journey to a terrible death. With the perception that HIV has been tamed, we are slowly but surely reverting to type and looking at condoms in pornography as eating candy without taking off the wrapping – you still get to the candy but it is not quite the same sweetness even if it were not clumsy.

Unfortunately for the health messengers, and fortunately for Treasure Island Media, human beings can only compromise for so long. Little wonder then that the health message is slowly but surely being drowned out.

  1. HIV infection is not a joke and should not be taken lighly. HIV is still serious and the side-effects of HIV medication can include sleepyness, constipation, food tasting "funny" and more. HIV infection can still be disabling. In fact there is a public service campaign reminding people that HIV infection can lead to other medical problems and that it's not just HIV. Please see this slideshow for that and other information about sexually transmitted infections: http://www.thegrio.com/health/slideshow-12-urban-myths-that-increase-your-chances-of-getting-an-std.php

  2. I have recently a week ago made a post on my blog about different types of condoms because i am constantly hearing folks complaining about having latex allergies. I know that now that a lot of them just do not care to protect themselves and believe that just because they get tested, that is going to prevent against disease. Also people are misinformed as to thinking that HIV or Aids are the only things that you can catch! THEY ARE JUST TOO FAR STUCK IN THE…THIS CAN NOT HAPPEN TO ME…STATE OF MIND…IT IS VERY SADDENING.
